Ash arrived on stage to a tumultuous cheer; they kicked straight into 'Lose Control' for the opening song. The audience decided to take this literally and went absolutely berserk. There was a downpour of bodies just flowing like an endless stream over the barricades. This was a certainly one of the most liveliest crowds that I have had the pleasure of being in.
Before we could catch our breath back, Ash ploughed straight into 'A Life Less Ordinary'. By this point the audience were getting out of hand, and it is only due to Rock City's excellent security that no one was seriously injured.
The pace never really slowed down, Ash just kept churning out hit after hit. You name it they played it. In no time at all they had ploughed through 'Goldfinger' , 'Kung Fu', 'Jack Names The Planets', 'Candy', and 'Burn Baby Burn'.
The pace was then taken to a higher level when 'Girl From Mars' was performed; the audience seemed to have a total lack of respect for each other's safety.
The pace dramatically slowed down when Tim Wheeler (Singer) introduced their forthcoming single 'There's A Star'. This was accompanied with artificial snow cascading over the band and audience like a blizzard.
In no time at all, Ash had finished their superb set. They brought the night to a close with 'World Domination'.
Ash kindly came back to do an encore, which included 'Uncle Pat' and 'Numbskull'.
This was an exceptional gig and Ash never fail to impress. However they are a pop band and so they rely on lights and special effects like the snow machine to create a brilliant show. The problem is that Ash could quite easily pull off a brilliant show without all the fancy lights and gimmicks.
Not many pop bands can say that they have played to a sold out crowd at Rock City. This goes to show that Ash are an extremely talented bunch of musicians. Live they are faultless and a lot of other bands could learn a lot from these youngsters.
