Athlete- Wires

Reviewed by Luke Seagrave

London-based quartet Athlete return with a brand new stunning single entitled ‘Wires’.  Athlete have earned a well deserved reputation for writing atmospheric and wry songs that even though I wasn’t a fan of Athlete I still appreciated the fact that they had an unmatched ability for song writing.

‘Wires’ in short takes off from where their debut album finished, they have created another atmospheric ballad, which draws the listener in with a slow quiet piano melody before slowly building up into a faultless melodic jewel of a song.

In short Athlete have set an incredible benchmark for 2005, it will be difficult for any other band to come even close to matching this. Their forthcoming album should be a masterpiece judging by this single.
