Alien Ant Farm

Rock City
Nottingham
Reviewed by Luke Seagrave

Alien Ant Farm received a warm welcome from the audience as they walked onto the stage. The audience consisted of mainly fourteen year olds! That's right! Rock City had decided to host a gig which allowed under 18`s into the venue.

My main concern about allowing under 18`s into Rock City was that there would be a lot of under age drinkers in the venue, which would lead to violence. However the bar staff and security staff were extremely vigilant. In fact I don't think I saw any one under age drinking alcohol, and for that reason alone the staff at Rock City deserve a pat on the back.

Alien Ant Farm played nearly every song from the Anthology album. This was to be expected as they have only released that album. In no time at all, they had ploughed through 'Wish', 'Universe', 'Movies' and 'Sticks and Stones'.  They even managed to fit in a new song called 'Where's the Belief?' Which went down well with the young audience.

They even had time to squeeze in their latest release 'Attitude'. Although it was hard to hear the vocals on this track, the bass seemed to be drowning the vocals and this ruined the mood of the song. However the audience didn't seem to care, they seemed happy just to be in the same room as their favourite group.

The biggest surprise of the night was the inclusion of 'Smooth Criminal' in the main set. This left the audience wondering which songs would be played in the encore. This is where the biggest shock of the night occurred because they didn't do an encore. Which explains why they performed 'Smooth Criminal' in the main set.

Alien Ant Farm's performance was amazing. Their songs were short and snappy, yet delivered with more power than a punch from Mike Tyson. Musically they were tighter than a ducks arse, and they managed to keep the high-octane pace up throughout the entire night. It was also a refreshing change to see a band that decided not to milk the appreciation from the audience by doing a pre- planned encore.
